How the water is made
Every soundscape in FocusPulse is composed with generative AI tools under a commercial licence, then chosen, edited, sequenced and mastered by us. We would rather say that plainly than let you wonder.
In one paragraph
The library is instrumental and wordless. It is generated with licensed AI music tools rather than licensed from record labels, which is what lets a small team keep hundreds of hours of focus audio in the app at a price that stays low. Nothing in the catalog uses someone else's recording, samples a track we do not have rights to, or sets out to imitate an identifiable artist. Every file is auditioned by a person before it ever reaches you.
What the process actually is
Generation is the first step, not the last one. A track earns its place in the catalog by surviving four more:
- Direction. We write the brief for each state — density, tempo band, harmonic colour, how much movement a mind can take while it works. Deep Work and Meditation are asked for very different water.
- Selection. Most of what is generated is discarded. What survives is judged on one question: can you keep working while it plays, for an hour, without noticing it end?
- Editing. Tracks are trimmed, arranged and looped so nothing lands like an event — no drops, no key changes that pull your eyes off the page, no sudden entries.
- Mastering. Levels are matched across the whole library so the water never jumps between tracks, and headroom is left for the Pulse to move the sound without clipping.
The Pulse itself is not generated at all. It is live signal processing that runs on your phone, applied to whatever is playing — the app's own work, in real time, offline.
The rights
B&B LLP holds the commercial rights needed to publish this music inside FocusPulse, under the terms of the AI tools we license and pay for. We keep the records that prove it — which track was generated when, under which subscription — for every file in the catalog.
Your licence, as a listener, is to hear the soundscapes inside the app. They are not cleared for you to extract, publish, stream, or use in your own recordings or videos. That limit is in the Terms of Use, and it is the ordinary limit any music app places on its catalog.
What we do not do
- No borrowed recordings. Nothing in the catalog contains audio owned by a third party, and we upload no third-party material into any tool.
- No imitations. We do not prompt for the style of a named artist, band or composer, and we do not market any track as sounding like one.
- No vocals, no words. The library is wordless by design — language competes with the task in front of you.
- No false claims. We do not describe this music as human-performed, and we do not dress it up with fictional artist names or invented backstories.
Why we tell you
Plenty of focus apps are built the same way and say nothing. We would rather be the app that volunteers it: the same instinct that put “no account, no analytics” at the centre of the product applies here. If knowing this changes how the music sounds to you, that is your call to make with the facts in hand — and short dives are there for exactly that.
